Guiding a class through an unfamiliar city for two hours is hard work. On our scavenger hunt, the app does it for you: you split the class into small groups, everyone starts at the same time and has 150 minutes to collect points.
What happens next is hard to write into a lesson plan, and it works anyway. The students find their bearings in unfamiliar surroundings, negotiate the next move as a team, and then suddenly find themselves outside the Fuggerei wanting to know how a flat for 88 cents a year is even possible.
Augsburg offers a remarkable amount within a short walk: its Roman foundation, the Fugger family as merchants of European standing, the Peace of Augsburg of 1555 and a water management system that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Four topics that appear in almost every curriculum, all within twenty minutes on foot.
Suitable for school classes, graduation trips, project groups and youth groups. For adult groups and corporate events, there is the Teams Edition.
The school version runs as a closed group challenge. Only the small groups from your own class or travel group appear in the ranking, never teams from outside.
You can follow the scores during and after the hunt in your own high score table, where all the small groups are listed clearly. Afterwards you use the high score and showdown link to review the results together and crown a winning team.
That gives you an activity with a built-in structure: briefing, playing time, shared finish.
There is no set route. Each group decides for itself which of the roughly 50 stops to head for and in what order.
That is exactly what sets it apart from a guided tour. One group stays around Rathausplatz and the cathedral, where the stops sit close together, and works through a lot of tasks quickly. Another heads into the Lechviertel canal quarter and accepts longer walks for more points. Either strategy can win, and either way the group had to agree on it first.
The 150-minute countdown holds the whole thing together. You know to the minute when your class will be back in one place, and you can plan the rest of the day around it.
Along the way, the teams face a mix of task formats: puzzles, knowledge questions, small observation tasks and creative photo challenges. The students have to look closely, piece things together, discuss and sometimes come up with something on the spot.
The result is an activity that fits a school trip well: the group is outdoors, discovering Augsburg’s old town and collecting shared moments alongside their points.
All submitted photos are gathered in a dedicated gallery. Once the hunt is over they can be sent out, and they stay as a reminder of the trip.
Organising it stays simple. You book the right number of accesses for the teams or small groups you have planned. After that, the hunt can start whenever it best fits your schedule for the day. The only thing that matters is that all teams begin at the same time.
Everyone plays on their own devices. You need no tour guide from us and are not tied to any other group. As soon as your class is ready, the scavenger hunt can begin.
The team challenge works best when you can form at least two or three small groups. That is when real competition develops, one that motivates your class and gives the activity a clear finish.
